Jak podaje Publisher Weekly, grupa CAA, czyli Creative Artists Agency zakupiła prawa do sfilmowania najnowszej powieści Pynchona, której oficjalna premiera w Stanach została zapowiedziana na 4 sierpień. Po pierwszych bardzo dobrych recenzjach w Telegraph i Guardian zekranizowanie Inherent Vice nie wydaje się to być złym pomysłem, gdyż książka w porównaniu z poprzedniczkami jest o wiele prostsza w odbiorze a jej linearna fabuła sama prosi się o zachowanie w formie obrazu.
